This was a truly fascinating read on some of the classic WE speakers and horns, equipment that most of us can only dream about listening to, much less owning. I guess I'll have to continue to be happy with my now 25 year old Altec A-5s.

All the Best,

Bruce BermanAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-954826843780110537.post-41658316632658069982019-12-13T03:34:55.240-05:002019-12-13T03:34:55.240-05:00J agree, they are great, unfortunately j have to s...J agree, they are great, unfortunately j have to sell them. Old well-proven knowledge, this too. Birch plywood is more rigid but tends to resonate unpleasantly. He only recommended birch to be used if the wall was very thin, 3-5 mm, and braced inside with a similar plywood cuts... Cheers! I've looked up RIM codes, EIA codes, etc. and can't make sense of "501" There's another stamp with three characters in a circle, but they're illegible. Have used them "nude" just hanging from picture wire from the ceiling to large plywood baffles, very satisfying if you don't get too wound up over the fequency range, covers enough to show you what is really happening music wise. Use them to help dial in my mutant Altec 821/MR94 setup which does have more lows and highs, and shear volume. Would not sell the 755As ever, will need them at the old folks home sooner than later and large corner horns wouldn't be appreciated in an apartment type of living situation. Joe is right need a amp that doesn't get in the way of the Uniates attributes of the 755As, need speed, and coupling and the first watt needs to be excellent, surprising loud. Can't go wrong with them, highly recommend.

BTW Joe, thanks for coming back, SP is considered a reference and instrumental in getting the horn/SET move jump started in the USA, along with Walt Bender. The two of you were real drivers in helping us rediscover what makes music and tames the inner beast.

Again thanks for starting this site, look forward to your future writings.

BobAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-954826843780110537.post-21058237635699277572012-11-04T05:18:26.949-05:002012-11-04T05:18:26.949-05:00Dear J-Rob... it's a true, TRUE pleasure read ...Dear J-Rob... it's a true, TRUE pleasure read again your no-frills, witty prose.
Thanks a lot for sharing yr. knowledge and S.
